Volunteer as an ASL Interpreter with the L.A LGBT Center and foster a more inclusive and accessible environment for indidiviuals in the LGBTQ Community! Why: ASL Interpreters ensure that Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals can fully engage in the Los Angeles LGBT Center's programs and events. Your efforts directly support the Center's mission to create a welcoming space for everyone in the LGBTQ community. Who: The Los Angeles LGBT Center is an unstoppable force in the fight against bigotry and the struggle to build a better world; a world in which LGBTQ people can be healthy, equal, and complete members of society. What to Expect: Volunteers will provide ASL interpretation during Center events and activities, including workshops, programming, and announcements. Shifts are flexible and can be chosen in advance, with opportunities to work in both large and small event settings. Volunteers will collaborate with event organizers and represent the Center with professionalism and respect. What's Required: Volunteers must create a Volunteer Resources account on the Los Angeles LGBT Center Website and activate it by attending an information session. Volunteers must be fluent in American Sign Language and have the ability to interpret in diverse settings. Certification in ASL interpretation is preferred but not required, and prior experience is a plus. Volunteers must commit to scheduled events as agreed upon, with shifts available during the week and some weekends. Facilitate seniors in finding support amongst their peers. Why: Men's Social Group Facilitator supports Senior Services Men's Social Group. This group provides a space for self-identified men to share their voice on various topics in a safe and supported space. Who: The Senior Services department of the Los Angeles LGBT Center strives to create a safe, welcoming, and respectful community where LGBTQ+ older adults (50+) can come together to learn, connect, build friendships, gain support, and thrive. Our programming provides social engagement and educational and support services to LGBTQ+ seniors. What to Expect: Facilitate workshops/activities geared for our LGBTQ+ senior community; Create an inclusive environment during workshop sessions; Gather and prepare materials for workshops/activities; Track attendance for each workshop/activity and submit attendance records to Activities Coordinator; Other duties as assigned. What's Required: Availability Wednesdays 10 am-12 pm, In Person. Strong customer service skills; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Able to work independently; Responsible, respectful, and dependable; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation and gender identities in a multicultural setting; Experience working with seniors a plus. Volunteer as a support group leader for LGBTQ+ Veterans! Why: The Veteran's Support Group Facilitator provides social support services to LGBTQ+ seniors. Who: The Senior Services department of the Los Angeles LGBT Center strives to create a safe, welcoming, and respectful community where LGBTQ+ older adults (50+) can come together to learn, connect, build friendships, gain support, and thrive. In addition to the weekly meeting, the group has pot-luck dinner's once a month. Volunteer as a HIV Group Facilitator with the L.A LGBT Center and help create a supportive space for Spanish-speaking LGBTQ seniors living with HIV to share experiences, build friendships, and foster community! Why: Your role will directly contribute to their well-being and help reduce isolation among a vulnerable population. Who: The Los Angeles LGBT Center is an unstoppable force in the fight against bigotry and the struggle to build a better world; a world in which LGBTQ people can be healthy, equal, and complete members of society. What to Expect: Volunteers will facilitate weekly group sessions, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for participants to share stories and connect. Responsibilities include preparing materials, tracking attendance, and collaborating with the Senior Services team. Sessions are held in person on Thursdays from 10-11:30 AM at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Senior Center. What's Required: Volunteers must create a Volunteer Resources account on the Los Angeles LGBT Center website and activate it by attending an information session. Volunteers must be fluent in Spanish and have strong communication and customer service skills. Experience working with seniors or knowledge of HIV is a plus but not required.
