Position Overview

Facilitate a Writing Club for students. The goal of HSE and English language classes is to help adults increase skills and pass their high school equivalency exam successfully and/or gain fluency in English.

Responsibilities

  • Run a weekly 1 hour long weekly conversation club for intermediate and advanced high school equivalency and English learners.
  • Prepare activities and materials in advance.
  • Practice real-life scenarios: write for homework, write descriptive paragraphs, short stories, resumes, etc.
  • Manage and turn in sign-in sheet

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and command of the English language
  • Willing to work with diverse students of mixed abilities, learner levels, background and cultures
  • High degree of initiative and creativity

  • Excellent person-to-person skills
  • Previous experience as a tutor is desirable but not required

Volunteers are essential to fulfilling our mission and we welcome inquiries from community members who want to help the thousands of adult students we serve each year.
