ORGANIZATION: The Turning Point (Rape Crisis Center)

Volunteer Advocate's Purpose:

Help reduce the trauma a survivor experiences from an attempted or completed sexual assault. Provide unbiased emotional support and information to survivors, family members and friends. Help survivors understand their choices and support them in selecting their options.

Qualifications:

  1. Able to work as a team member
  2. Able to accept supervision
  3. Ability to empathize and provide non-judgmental support
  4. Good listening skills
  5. Reliable transportation
  6. Evening & weekends availability

Requirements:

1. Commit to one year of service.
2. Complete an interview and background screening process.
3. Complete 40 hours of training (Begins January 2019) Exact date T.B.D.
4. Successfully complete probationary period (2 on-call shifts)
5. Attend required 6 hours of Continuing Education after one-year anniversary. This can include volunteer meetings, volunteer training sessions, and some college classes (per the discretion of the Volunteer Coordinator)
6. Take a minimum of 1 on-call shift per month.
7. Successful completion of 90-day review with Volunteer Coordinator.

Our Mission is to provide counseling, education, and advocacy for those impacted by sexual violence.

Description

Free services are provided to victims of all forms of sexual violence including: attempted sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, date rape, incest, marital rape, and sexual harassment, no matter how long ago the incident occurred. Our services are provided by staff and trained volunteers.

We also provide free education to the middle schools, high schools, colleges, and the general community on topics such as bullying, sexual harassment, date rape, and other forms of sexual violence.
