Volunteer purpose and impact
This volunteer will contribute to the early employment program (Matching Grant Program) to assist recently arrived refugees on their path to self-sufficiency in the United States. The Matching Grant (MG) program’s goal is to help refugees attain self-sufficiency after arrival without access to public cash assistance. Participating agencies agree to match the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) grant with cash and in-kind contributions.
Responsibilities and key deliverables- Support Matching Grant Team in facilitating MG client orientation and enrollment
- Assist with managing financial expenditures, tracking cash and in-kind donations
- Complete program reporting requirements as needed for contract compliance
- Monitor progress of employment plan for all new refugee arrivals and note any consultation or services provided to the client
- Assist with coordinating financial literacy classes, employment related orientations, workshops
- Assist with coordinating the employment mentor program
- Assist with completing monthly reports and documentation of information in case files
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Detail orientated, organized, flexible individual
- Cross-cultural communication skills
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Preferred: ability to speak Swahili, Farsi, Kinyarwanda, French, Amharic, Tigrinya, Rohingya
The intern is required, upon training, to maintain current knowledge of Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), other participating programs funded through the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, or other Public and Private Partnerships.
Clearances required & trainingFingerprint Clearance Card required.
Several weeks of training will be provided to learn about Matching Grant, daily operations and tasks required. The intern will shadow the Match Grant Coordinator until able to complete tasks on their own.
Location & timeframeMust commit to at least 4 months, minimum 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am to 4:30pm.
All work will be completed at LSS-SW Refugee and Immigration Services, 3443 N Central Ave Phoenix, AZ 85012, between the hours of 8am to 4:30pm. May be asked to work evening hours about once a month.
Working conditionsIntern will have access to computer with internet and phone.
