Join our early childhood team in helping to provide educational, enriching and fun experiences at Blank Park Zoo. Volunteers will work with and assist the education department during weekly early childhood classes, for children ages two - four. Education staff will lead the classes; volunteers may help greet participants, support participants during learning activities and crafts, monitor oven and/or stove top when needed and help keep supplies in order.
Zoo Tots (children ages 2-4 years):Designed for children ages 2 to 4 years with an accompanying adult, is a little over an hour in length, and includes a story, snack, song/dramatic play, live animal, and craft.
Zoo Tots Cooking (children ages 2-4 years):Children make a tasty treat while learning all about the animal kingdom. This class is also designed for children ages 2 to 4 years with an accompanying adult and is a little over an hour in length.
Zoo Tunes (children ages 1-2.5 years): Music class at the Blank Park Zoo, designed for adults and the little ones they love ages 1-2.5 years. Participants in this class will sing songs, play instruments, dance, join in hands-on activities, and enjoy animal visitors. Classes are 30-45 minutes in length.
**Polliwogs (children ages 1-2.5 years):1 hour nature play program designed for children ages 1-2.5 years and an accompanying adult, during which children learn through exploration and play at nature stations around the classroom!
**Polliwogs must have animal handling training

The mission of the Blank Park Zoo is to inspire an appreciation of the natural world through conservation, education, research, and recreation.
Description
The Blank Park Zoo is located in Des Moines, IA and manages 49 acres of land. Of that, 22 acres have been developed into animal exhibits or facilities.
Currently there are 104 different animal species and 1,484 animal specimens cared for at the Blank Park Zoo.
Individuals age 18 and over may volunteer for most special events, visitor services, office support, and grounds without adult supervision. Children ages 13-17 may participate in special events only under the supervision of a parent/guardian. Education volunteers must be 18 or older.
ZooCrew is a special volunteer program for teens 13-17 years old. Applications are accepted until April 27th for the 2012 summer.
