Zoo Brew Volunteers Needed! Lions, Tigers, and Beers, OH MY! Help us every Wednesday June- August, as we open the Zoo for adults! Music, beer, wine, and animals are all available for guests to enjoy an evening at the ZOO! Do you like animals and want to help others learn how to save them! Become a DISCOVER the WILD Day volunteer! Every month Blank Park Zoo hosts a DISCOVER the WILD day to engage our guests with our SAVING the WILD Conservation Priorities. Volunteers can help with stations that help connect guests to the month's animal, conservation organization that we support, AZA and a Take ACTION activity that can be done here in Iowa. Volunteers ages 9 nd up are welcomed; Please note volunteers under the age of 13 MUST have an adult chaperone signed up with them. Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Night Eyes, Iowa’s merry not scary Halloween Event Night Eyes 2024 Volunteer Information October 17 - 20 & 24 -27 Night Eyes is the Zoo's Merry, Not Scary Halloween Event! Volunteers will have fun interacting and engaging with guest to make their event one to remember. Volunteer opportunities includes mascot costume characters, fun zone attendants, treat station attendants, and more! Volunteers are encouraged to DRESS UP! Halloween apparel, costumes all are encouraged! Volunteer Opportunities You will be able to sign up for an assignment using the Volunteer Spot link. Please note: there may be times we need to reassign you to another area. We appreciate your flexibility while volunteering. We will have the following opportunities for volunteers: Zone Captains -Must be 18 years or older. Zone Captains are in charge of one of three zones around the zoo. Each zone has candy treat stations and activities. Candy Runners - Must be 13 years old or older. Assist the Candy Truck coordinator and deliver candy refill requests. Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs. and work a hand cart. Treat Stations Attendants- Must be 13 years old or older. Hand out 1 piece of candy/drink/treat per child/adult. Specialized Costume Areas - Must be 13 years or older. Dress up as a "specialized" character and stay at the themed station! These areas provide guests with a great photo opportunity! We will supply the costumes, but if you have one that fits the theme you are more than welcomed to wear it, just no masks please! Theme areas include: Pirate Ship, Wizard of Oz Mascot costumes characters - These costumes cover your head and body and will have a guide dressed up to fit the theme to help you navigate the crowds! Fun Zone - Must be at least 13 years old or older. Help monitor the bouncy house area and answer guest’s questions. Night Eyes Greeters -Must be 13 years or older. Hand out candy treat bags & maps to the guests. Volunteer Shift Times The following shifts are available during Night Eyes: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday Nights: 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Some opportunities have longer shift times; please see the SIGNUP.com link for more information. Volunteers must stay at assigned area until they are officially released by Zoo Staff. Age Requirements All volunteers must be at least 13 years of age. Volunteers under 13 will not be allowed to work the event. Please see job assignments for specific age requirements. Volunteer Confirmation Email All volunteers will receive a confirmation email the week before the event. The mission of the Blank Park Zoo is to inspire an appreciation of the natural world through conservation, education, research, and recreation.
Description
The Blank Park Zoo is located in Des Moines, IA and manages 49 acres of land. Of that, 22 acres have been developed into animal exhibits or facilities.
Currently there are 104 different animal species and 1,484 animal specimens cared for at the Blank Park Zoo.
Individuals age 18 and over may volunteer for most special events, visitor services, office support, and grounds without adult supervision. Children ages 13-17 may participate in special events only under the supervision of a parent/guardian. Education volunteers must be 18 or older.
ZooCrew is a special volunteer program for teens 13-17 years old. Applications are accepted until April 27th for the 2012 summer.
