Edgar - Therapy Dog

One of our most frequent requests made by Allay's hospice patients are for visits from a friendly, certified therapy dog or therapy cat. Therapy animals have the endearing quality of showing unconditional love & affection that brings joy to everyone. They are a remarkable source of comfort & companionship, as well as a welcome distraction from the daily routine for both hospice patients and their families. Contact with furry companions can be especially meaningful to patients who are no longer able to care for their own beloved pet.

Would you be able to help us fulfill some of those requests within your own community?

While many animals provide love and companionship in the home, not all of them have the temperament suited for this type of service. We require that all Therapy Animal Teams must have completed training & assessment through a recognized Animal-Assisted Therapy program before visiting hospice patients. (The human-half of the team will also receive additional training related to hospice visitation.)

  • If your pet is already certified as a therapy animal, Congratulations! You are already well on your way to joining Allay’s Pet Therapy Team.
  • If your pet has not been through the certification process, we can get you the resources to help you get started.

Volunteer and patient safety are our priority. We follow CDC guidelines & respect the Covid-19 protocols of our partner facilities. At this time, volunteers are asked to complete a self-screening checklist prior to visits, wear a mask during visits and, of course, adhere to standard precautions, such as frequent handwashing. Allay will provide the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safe practices can be followed.

Mission Statement

Allay Hospice consistently strives to provide the best, most compassionate care that can be experienced through the last phase of life's journey. Our goal is to ensure that those with a life-limiting illness live each day to the fullest in comfort and dignity. At Allay, we are committed to taking care of our patients and families as we would our own.

Hospice is not a place, but a special way of caring that promotes one's quality of life and death with dignity. When medicine cannot provide a cure, Allay Hospice offers patients and their families the comfort, compassion and assistance necessary to maintain the best possible quality of life.

Allay is a locally owned hospice with offices in Brookfield, Waterford, Jackson, & Sheboygan to serve all communities of Southeastern Wisconsin.

*Our volunteers work side by side with Allay's experienced hospice team in providing comfort and care when it is needed most. For all of our volunteer opportunities, the amount of time you give is flexible and assignments are based on your availability and location; we do our best to assign volunteers within or near their own community.
