ORGANIZATION: Family Service of RI- Providence Children's Initiative Dept.

AIM Mentors will work within an at-risk elementary school in lower south providence or smith hill to help increase school attendance, Mentors will participate in Walking School Bus to help get children to school, implement Playworks before school and recess, and practice Check and Connect initiatives within the classroom. The mentor will serve as a liaison between teacher, student and parent with a focus on family engagement within the school. The mentors will help build relationships with students to help improve attendance, in-classroom and school behavior, and assist with personalized interventions. A semi-monthly living stipend is provided along with an educational award at the end of the service year.

Description

The Walking School Bus has been serving Lower South Providence and its youth since 2012. Our goal is to make sure students are arriving on time to school each morning prepared to start the day.
