PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The Los Angeles LGBT Center is building a world where LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal and complete members of society. The Center’s Networking Groups program offer opportunities for LGBTQ people to connect with one another and build community, while participating in general topic socially themed conversations. These groups are not therapy-based support groups.

JOB SUMMARY:

Once trained, Social Networking Group Facilitators will be a part of the team that leads the Center’s official social networking groups (HERstories, Bi-osphere, Transgender Perceptions, Men’s Speakeasy), as well as our closed growth groups (Coming Out Workshops for Women and for Men). In the coming months, Facilitators may also lead Spanish language LGBTQ themed, social and growth groups based out of the Center’s Boyle Heights location, Mi Centro.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete initial 5-hour training;
  • Commit to facilitating at least 12 months (after training completion date);
  • Commit to facilitating no fewer than 2 groups per calendar month;
  • Attend monthly facilitator meetings;
  • Commit to facilitating groups that you relate to, as well as those that challenge your concepts of community and groups.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have been "OUT" (openly LGBTQ) for at least the past three years;
  • Must agree to not socialize/establish friendships or relationships with current or recent group participants outside of the group setting for the entire time that you are a facilitator;
  • Must agree to be an open-minded person who genuinely desires the opportunity to learn and grow as a member of the LGBTQ community;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaker a plus;
  • Responsible, respectful, and dependable;
  • Comfortable asserting yourself and assuming an authoritative role when groups demand it of you;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation and gender identities in a multicultural setting.

Volunteer facilitators will need to be available evenings from 7:30 to 10 p.m to set up and run. Groups are held Monday through Friday.

Currently in need of Trans men and non-binary folks.

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Participate in a personal one-on-one training;
  • Sit in on four of our current groups to observe and learn what the role of the facilitator is all about;
  • An initial 5-hour training will be provided.
