ORGANIZATION: East Bay Community Action Program

Volunteers facilitate learning and growth opportunities for students of education partners (Schools, YMCA's, Libraries) throughout the East Bay of RI. Volunteers are typically in the classroom working with one child, or a small group (3-4 students), assisting students accomplish learning goals under supervision of a teacher. Volunteers serve a minimum of 1 hour a week at a school for at least a six week term.

All volunteers will undergo training hosted by our office to prepare you with techniques to help students build literacy skills! A BCI and check on the National Sex Offender Website are required.

This program is a part of the RSVP with East Bay Community Action Program. Volunteers should be 55 years of age or older to participate in the program.

Description

The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) is part of the Senior Corps, a network of national service programs, including the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Senior Companion Program, that provide older Americans the opportunity to put their life experiences to work for local communities. Foster Grandparents work directly with children and youth with special needs through a variety of community organizations, including schools, libraries, group homes, before and after school programs and shelters for children.
