CitySoil, an urban farm, is having an invasive removal work party! Visit this wonderful urban farm where fruits and vegetables are grown and harvested right in the middle of the city. On this day we will be tending to the farm by removing invasive species of plants, so the native ones can thrive. It takes a lot of work to keep a tidy farm, and we need your help!
Be sure to wear something you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. Long sleeve shirts, long pants, and close-toed shoes advised. Bring some water for yourself as well. We will provide tools.
While there we also want to share with you the community aspects of this urban farm. There will be time for a teaching component on invasive weeds, also break-time for checking out the rows of vegetables, or enjoy a walk through the orchard full of many different type of fruit trees. Our hope is this experience will acquaint volunteers to the joys of farming, even if one lives in an urban area. Come join us!
CitySoil Farm is a 1.5 acre demonstration farm located at the King County Wastewater Treatment Plant in Renton. The farm is a four-way partnership between King County, King Conservation District, Tilth Alliance, and DIRT Corps. CitySoil is a teaching farm that showcases sustainable farming and provides accessible, local food. Our mission is to help people make informed decisions and develop innovative solutions for food challenges. We view ourselves as partners with our community and environment, providing a platform for shared knowledge, non-traditional land-use, and the art of salvage.
