Members of diverse communities are invited to join our San Diego Natural History Museum Docent team to engage young people in our community with the wonders of our local nature. Our volunteer programs strives to make museums and science accessible to all, creating a welcoming and engaging environment, particularly for community members who have traditionally been under-represented in these sectors.

Docents are provided with top-notch training in order to be able to deliver educational programs for local schools in San Diego, both inside the museum and on site at schools. Training begins in September and comprises once a week spread over a five-month period. Training topics cover all areas of natural history and are taught by museum curators and other local experts. No prior background or education in natural history is required - just a desire to introduce our local students to our amazing natural world.

Docents are asked to volunteer 3 hours per week for a two year period. Read more about our programs and submit an application at this link: https://www.sdnhm.org/join-and-give/volunteer/
