The County of Orange Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Access Office is a part of central Human Resource Services. The office is responsible for overseeing the administration of the County’s EEO and Anti-Harassment Policy which includes, but is not limited to: investigate EEO related complaints; provide guidance and consultation on EEO related issues to agencies/departments; act as a liaison for the County and respond to complaints from state/federal compliance agencies such as Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Department of Fair Employment Housing (DFEH); and assist with managing the County’s participation and compliance with state/federal EEO mandated training and reporting.

Intern Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Compile and audit EEO Online Training Harassment and Discrimination logs;
  • Assist with scheduling of meetings and interviews along with interview preparation;
  • Create new employee relations case files;
  • Properly handle client requests through responsiveness, follow-up, and escalation;
  • Develop a working knowledge of HR information databases and searchable sources;
  • Track progress, deadlines, and priorities of all projects;
  • Prepare Word and Excel documents; and
  • Problem solve capabilities necessary to accomplish the duties and tasks of the position.

Educational Requirements:

This internship is best suited for students or recent graduates with an interest in pursuing a career in the public sector, especially in areas related to human resources, public administration, business, communications or related fields, and/or in gaining experience within an office/administrative environment.

Skills, Training or Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Highly organized and dependable;
  • Eager to gain professional experience;
  • Able to complete assignments in a timely manner;
  • Reliable, outgoing and able to work independently; and
  • Experience in using the Internet and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.

Time Commitment:

Minimum 10 - 20 hours per week for three or more months. Hours may be scheduled during regular business hours (Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.

Required Background Screening:

Prior to placement, applicants will be asked to submit contact information for reference checks, and a LiveScan criminal record check through the California Department of Justice will be conducted. A Social Security number and valid state-issued driver’s license are required for the LiveScan.

Benefits Available to Intern:

Although this is an unpaid internship that does not lead to paid employment or include employee benefits, students and recent graduates are offered an excellent opportunity to gain administrative support experience that will assist in resume development, apply skills and knowledge to the workplace and network with professionals in a chosen field of interest
