Volunteer museum guides are passionate lifelong learners who provide guided tours for school and youth groups. They encourage guests to forge their own connections to MIM's collections and stories through lively, thoughtful discussions. You don’t need a musical or teaching background to apply-training covers everything a guide needs to know.
STEP 1Apply now by going to https://mim.org/support-mim/become-a-volunteer-team-member/
STEP 2Attend an orientation for new volunteers and a meet-and-greet for museum guide candidates.
STEP 3Complete a 5½ week initial training. Class will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
STEP 4Lead fun, engaging tours of MIM’s galleries for kids of all ages. Following the training, museum guides commit to a minimum of three tours per month.

The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) enriches our world by collecting, preserving, and making accessible an astonishing variety of musical instruments and performance videos from every country in the world. MIM offers guests a welcoming and fun experience, incomparable interactive technology, dynamic programming, and exceptional musical performances. MIM fosters appreciation of the world’s diverse cultures by showing how we innovate, adapt, and learn from each other to create music--the language of the soul.
Description
MIM displays more than 6,800 instruments collected from around 200 of the world’s countries and territories. Most displays are enhanced by state-of-the-art audio and video technologies that allow guests to see the instruments, hear their sounds, and observe them being played in their original contexts-performances that are often as spectacular as the instruments themselves. What’s more, all guests are invited to play instruments from around the world in the Experience Gallery. They can also see instruments from music icons such as John Lennon, Taylor Swift, Elvis Presley (r), Carlos Santana, and many more in the Artist Gallery.
