ORGANIZATION: NAMI San Fernando Valley

NAMI SFV

NAMI is the nation's largest volunteer-led grassroots organization helping individuals affected by mental illness. Through our free services and programs, we offer hope and help save lives. We are extremely excited to be growing and in need of a reliable and committed self-starter to coordinate the logistics of our monthly speaker meetings. Our speaker meetings are an extremely valuable, free service to the public. We introduce our services and provide valuable information with a different topic and special guest speaker each month. The right person will help us smoothly coordinate a ready environment for the public to get the most out of the meeting. As a detail-oriented, thoughtful planner, we rely on the Speaker Meeting Coordinator to ensure an efficiently run meeting where all the pieces and players are on deck to ensure its success.

You will...

  • Ensure a librarian, set up/break down crew, and food setup volunteers are in place to help the day of the meeting
  • Schedule volunteers to work one day a month at the meeting
  • Maintain a database of speaker meeting volunteers to ensure coverage is solid at least 2 months in advance
  • Ensure adequate forms, pencils, pens, clipboards, markers and other necessities are stocked and on-hand at each meeting
  • Ensure supplies and snacks are ordered and adequately stocked for each meeting
  • Ensure guests interested in volunteering or becoming members are given forms along with pens and clipboards
  • Ensure appropriate NAMI staff are given the membership/volunteer forms for follow-up
  • Be an information resource for guests
  • Ensure broadcast meeting reminder is sent to our constituents at least two times before the scheduled monthly meeting
  • Stay connected with the Speaker Coordinator to ensure audio/visual equipment is available and working for the guest speakers

You get...

  • Training
  • Support (a Relationship Manager is paired up with you to ensure your experience is enjoyable)
  • Low-key but high, behind the scenes impact on the community
  • Recognition for your contributions (a big party every year to celebrate and reward our volunteers)
  • A cool and helpful team to work with

If you are a student or someone seeking career enrichment through volunteering, or you just want to donate some time for a worthy cause, we are a perfect place for you. This rewarding opportunity only requires 5-7 hours a month! With a brand reputation as one of the best non-profits in the country, and one of the 100 organizations most likely to change world, you couldn’t ask for more in a volunteer opportunity. Description

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979, NAMI has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Today, NAMI is an association of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.
