Mentors are needed to give hope of a brighter future to middle and high school students in Duval County (not just Sandalwood HS)! Mentors are adult volunteers who can meet with a middle or high school student once a week during the school year. Please fill out a mentor application at www.takestockjax.org then you will be invited to a mentor training. Trainings take place year-round so apply today!
Youth with a mentor are 46% less likely than their peers to start using drugs. And youth in the Take Stock in Children program get the added bonus of a 2 year tuition scholarship upon graduation. Help give these students hope of college and a bright future by mentoring them through middle and high school!

Mission Statement
Take Stock helps children from low income families achieve academic and personal success through a scholarship and mentor program led by a local partnership of schools, businesses, agencies & individuals. Along with a pledge of scholarship funds, the most vital commitment that Take Stock in Children makes to each child who signs a contract and becomes a Take Stock Scholar is the provision of an adult mentor with whom they can build a relationship of support and trust.
Description
Since our inception in 1996, Take Stock in Children has graduated over 1,000 students. Currently, our program serves over 400 students in 48 middle and high schools throughout Duval County and is the second, largest program in the state. We are a public-private partnership consisting of state government, businesses, school systems, social service agencies, civic and religious organizations, and private citizens.
Take Stock in Children’s multi-year commitment to at-risk children and low-income parents is an investment in our community. We know that the education of a child is an investment in their future and the assured way of breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and crime. Our goal is to continue to reduce the number of high school drop-outs and to increase the number of students who finish college and enter the workforce successfully.
