Take Stock in Children is both a program and a strategy. Take Stock helps children from low income families achieve academic and personal success through a scholarship and mentor program led by a local partnership of schools, businesses, agencies & individuals. Along with a pledge of scholarship funds, the most vital commitment that Take Stock in Children makes to each child who signs a contract and becomes a Take Stock Scholar is the provision of an adult mentor with whom they can build a relationship of support and trust.
Students in Take Stock must maintain a satisfactory GPA and stay drug- and crime-free. While they are participating in the program, Take Stock provides each student with a volunteer mentor. This mentor commits to spend one hour per week meeting with the student at their school to encourage, guide, and/or tutor the student, and to support the student and family's participation in activities approved by Take Stock. Upon completion of the program and graduation from high school, Take Stock shall provide each student a 2+2 scholarship for two years tuition at a Florida junior college and two years tuition at a Florida state university.
