ORGANIZATION: Communities In Schools of Tacoma

Ready, Set, Read-Tacoma! is an early childhood literacy program designed to help prepare children for kindergarten in Tacoma Public Schools.

Why Volunteer?
This program introduces children over the age of 3 to early literacy and STEAM concepts. Each of the 70+ books in our collection contains tips for grown-ups to make reading fun, with related activities and suggestions for similar books. Children who enter kindergarten ready to read are primed to succeed in school.

How can you help?
We are seeking a volunteer to help out with office administration tasks for this program. This could include any of the following:
  • Marketing
  • Grant Writing
  • Data entry
  • Inventory and processing books
  • Community Outreach and networking
Spanish and ASL proficiency would be especially helpful-though not required! We need help during office hours, Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Communities In Schools is part of the 5th largest youth development organization in the country. We are the only ones proven to increase graduation rates AND decrease dropout rates.

We serve as the bridge between the student and the community, bringing in resources that help break down the barriers that students have to be successful in school.
