ABOUT FARESTART
FareStart provides a community that transforms lives by empowering homeless and disadvantaged men,
women, and families to achieve self-sufficiency through life skills, job training and employment in the food
service industry. We empower each individual to achieve his or her highest potential by restoring hope,
giving respect, nurturing self-confidence, granting trust, and creating opportunity.
FareStart's Community Meals program incorporates recovered food into nutritious meals serving several area emergency and transitional facilities. Support food recovery by gleaning fresh produce at Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center, a nonprofit partner, throughout the summer! Gleaning is the process of collecting leftover produce after a harvest. Please feel free to sign up for one or all of these opportunities.
Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will harvest a variety of vegetables from Oxbow Farm. This includes bending, squatting and kneeling. Volunteers may also provide some support to Oxbow through weeding and other farm tasks.
- Adults are encouraged to bring kids and teens age 7+ along!
- Volunteers must provide their own transportation
- Ability to lift 20-35 pounds, stand for several hours, and work in warm/hot temperatures is important.

Description
WHO WE ARE
FareStart has been helping people transform their lives through food for 30 years - one person, one job and one community at a time.
People experiencing poverty struggle to escape the cycle they are in and often face other compounding barriers to getting and keeping a job. At FareStart, we help people overcome barriers by teaching work and life skills needed to succeed in employment and in life. By investing in people, providing meals and building community, we transform homelessness, hunger and poverty into human potential.
