Join FareStart in making meals for community members in need. We believe everyone is entitled to fresh, healthy and nutritious food. We haveover 30 years of history and expertise in preparing and delivering meals across the Greater Seattle area, producing 19 million meals for local nonprofits, shelters, respite centers, youth and adult daycare centers and schools.Volunteers help with a variety of tasks to help supplement the large amount of work that goes in to creating around 2,365 meals each day. No kitchen experience required! A great opportunity for hands-on volunteer work and team building. Food is provided! Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will help prepare meals by completing basic preparation tasks; for example: assembling boxes for meal transportation, stamping meal bags, portioning, cleaning produce and more. FareStart staff will assign tasks based on individual skill and comfort level. Location: Galaxy Building, 635 Elliott Ave W, Seattle, WA 98119 Parking: Is available in Galaxy Building Garage ($16), a lot across the street ($14), or on the street for free. Bus routes 24 and 30 stop along street. Dates/Times: Saturdays and Sundays 10:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 9:45-10:00 am - arrival time, volunteers put items in lockers 10:00 am - kitchen volunteer orientation, tasks assigned 10:15 am - production begins 11:30am (30 min) lunch break* 12:00 pm- 3:00 PM - review final tasks, production resumes and help with cleanup Contact: When you arrive please call the kitchen at 206-588-4020 to gain entrance to building. Attire: Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy, closed-toed, non-slip/rubber soled shoes and full-length pants. We also advise volunteers to wear clothes and shoes which can get dirty, we will provide aprons. Long hair must be tied back, and all volunteers must wear a hat or a hairnet (hairnet provided). Overview FareStart’s Food Security Team partners with area food rescue nonprofits, local farms, and food businesses to obtain and process food donations. This product will be used in our community meals, at our mobile markets, to support student training, and in other food security initiatives. It helps FareStart incorporate fresh, local, and nutritious products into those programs, diversify ingredients we wouldn’t otherwise be able to purchase, and minimize costs. Tasks This ongoing weekly volunteer role will support in a variety of activities, including: Receiving, sorting, and processing recovered and donated food for immediate use, transfer, or long-term storage Prepping product to be viable for immediate use by kitchens Sorting, weighing, labeling and other inventory related tasks Washing, peeling, and storing and other kitchen prep tasks Preparing and preserving product for freezer or shelf storage Sorting and organizing product based on each programs needs and setting items up for transfer and pick up Schedule and Location Tuesdays, 4:30pm-6pm at 700 Virginia St, Seattle WA 98101 Qualifications and Requirements Be able to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly Be able to stand and walk for up to 1.5 hours Adhere to FareStart's volunteer expectations Flexibility: tasks and amount of work may change week to week Must be 18yrs +

Our Mobile Community Market successfully reaches many underserved and low-income communities, with customers returning week after week to collect fresh produce that they would not otherwise have access to. With the help of our farm and community partners and our volunteers we collect and purchase fresh food and staples and then redistribute them to communities with limited access to healthy and nutritious food. OVERVIEW FareStart provides job training and wraparound support services to individuals experiencing barriers to employment so that they have the tools, training and support needed to gain long-term employment. The Social Enterprise team run businesses such as the FareStart Restaurant, cafes, box lunches, catering and space rental that support our programs financially while providing training for our students. Volunteers help with a variety of tasks to help supplement a large amount of work that goes into creating between 1,000 - 2,000 meals each day. No kitchen experience is required! A great opportunity for hands-on volunteer work and team building. Food is provided! Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will help prepare meals by completing basic kitchen preparation tasks. FareStart staff will assign tasks based on individual skill and comfort level. No cooking experience necessary!
