Lantern Community Services champions the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are formerly homeless or have recently aged out of foster care recreate their lives. Our programs with proven results in health, employment, education and life skills are delivered inside our residences and tailored to each person’s needs.

Lantern is looking for volunteers who can give 1-5 hours per week supporting our on-the-ground program staff! Each of these opportunities will lift the burden for your host site by relieving the staff of administrative work. This is a great opportunity to give back to a vulnerable community!


This opportunity is available immediately at six of our locations (4 locations in the Bronx, 1 in Manhattan and 1 in Brooklyn). Details for each position are as follows:

  • West Bronx location:Filing, scanning, organizing/archiving charts and other administrative assistance, including organizing supply closet. 1-5 hours per week.
  • Longwood, Bronx location: Bilingual Spanish, requested. Filing, making copies, passing out flyers, organizing bulletin boards, organizing closets, organizing library books, supporting in setting up groups with facilitators and supporting facilitators, taking messages /providing messages. Up to 11am-5pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; please apply for up to as much time as you can manage!
  • Tremont, Bronx location:Filing, shredding, organizing/archiving charts and other administrative assistance, including organizing closet in Program Office. 1-5 hours per week.
  • Tremont, Bronx location:Filing, shredding, organizing/archiving charts and other administrative assistance, including organizing closet in Program Office. 1-5 hours per week.
  • Washington Heights location:Filing and other administrative assistance, including helping Resident Coordinator organize chart room. 1-5 hours per week.
  • Brownsville, Brooklyn location: Filing and other administrative assistance. Fridays would be preferable, 1-5 hours per week.


All of Lantern’s locations are accessible by public transportation.

Description

Lantern is grounded in the mission to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are impacted by or threatened with homelessness. Our objective is to make sure that our residents can find and maintain stable housing through emergency shelter and supportive housing. Our on-site social services bring residents and staff together to create opportunities for personal recovery, wellness and growth. We have 16 supportive housing buildings located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx, and three shelters based in Manhattan and Queens.
