The Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will build a volunteer recruitment database, implement recruiting protocols, and follow best practices to retain volunteers for the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space.

Position Description

The Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will be an essential member of the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space team. This person will develop a volunteer program including protocols for recruiting, training, appreciating, and managing volunteers who will assist in implementing community programs, park clean-ups, and similar volunteer activities. ​

parks, open space, and diverse recreational opportunities to enhance the quality of life in Carson City, while preserving our natural resources for future generations.

Timeline for Service: June 11, 2018 - June 10, 2019


Primary Responsibilities

Build an effective volunteer recruitment, training, and retention program;

Develop and update volunteer training protocols for Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space programs and events;

Create and update a volunteer database;

Collaborate with the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator VISTA to ensure all volunteer opportunities are well advertised;

Collaborate closely with the Community Education Coordinator VISTA to ensure adequate numbers of trained volunteers are available to assist in delivering community programs.


Qualifications

Commitment to the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space mission and vision;

Bachelor’s degree in communications, recreation, marketing, advertising, business, pubic administration, or a related field;

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;

Exceptional writing skills;

Strong communication skills;

Strong organizational skills;

High degree of initiative and spirit of service;

Preferred: experience in volunteer management and recruitment;

Preferred: experience with website, graphic design, and management;

Preferred: reading, writing, and speaking competency in Spanish language.

AmeriCorps VISTA

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space's Volunteer Coordinator VISTA position is funded by the Corporations for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty and increase organizational capacity. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. Compensation

In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $1,023/month, health benefits during their service, and have the option of receiving a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,920.00 or post-service stipend of $1,500.00 after completing their service. A relocation travel allowance of no less than $550 may also apply if moving.

Carson City will provide housing at a Carson City park!
