ORGANIZATION: Multnomah County Library

The Basics

Listos para el k?nder (hereafter referred to as Listos ) is Multnomah County Library’s successful early literacy program for Spanish-speaking families with children 3 to 5 years old. Listos empowers Latino parents to prepare their children for kindergarten. The program also provides parents the skills to use early learning activities in their children’s daily lives.

Time commitment, location & training

Minimum commitment is 2-4 hours/week for 3 months or more. Listos office hours are Monday - Friday 9-5 and they are located at the Isom Building, 205 NE Russell Street, Portland, OR 97212. A site orientation and training will be provided by Listos Program Coordinator.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Printing and photocopying materials
  • Collating packages
  • Organize materials
  • Pack and unpack Listos boxes
  • Create documents as needed

Special skills & qualifications

  • Age 18 or older
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Willing to do repetitive tasks
  • Open to learn new things
  • Manual dexterity required for typing and collating
  • Organization skills for keeping track of detailed processes
  • Ability to work independently once trained
  • Self directed and dependable
  • Ability to make decisions based on instructions and procedures
  • Basic computer skills

Multnomah County Library is the oldest public library west of the Mississippi River, with a history that reaches back to 1864. As Oregon's largest public library, Multnomah County Library serves nearly one-fifth of the state's population with a wide variety of programs and services.

The mission of the volunteer program is to engage community members in enhancing the services that Multnomah County Library is able to provide online, at library locations, and in the community. Volunteers are engaged throughout the organization including at all of our 19 libraries and our outreach programs.
