Positions

Child Development Summer VISTA
The Child Development Summer VISTA will design and implement age appropriate activities for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in the Little Learners Child Development Center. Responsibilities will include planning and scheduling visitors from the community to come to Little Learners in order to provide in-program field trips for our children. This position requires serving closely with other Little Learners and Our House team members to engage children in activities (books, songs, games, etc.), to track attendance, and to ensure safety and wellbeing of all clients.

Family Support Summer VISTA
The Family Support VISTA will work closely with the Director of Client Services and Case Management team to provide mental health services to Our House families. This position will have significant leadership in the implementation and evaluation of the new Our Families program- a pilot mental health program targeting families with trauma histories and current behavioral and connectedness problems. Goals will include working closely with families enrolled in the Our Families project to address the challenges they experience, overcoming the barriers families experience in accessing traditional mental health care, and assisting in the coordinating of other family supporting services. This role includes leading groups, conducting outreach to clients about available support services, and working with families in both individual and group formats to pilot this intervention. This position will require evening hours. Candidates should have experience providing mental health services and education around best practices in providing these types of services.

Operations Support Summer VISTA
Working with the Operations team, this Summer VISTA will improve campus safety, technology, facilities, logistics, and grounds (e.g., campus beautification). A strong candidate will have strong organizational, technical, writing, and analytical skills. Time will be split among responsibilities according to need and skills. The ideal candidate will be a "jack of all trades" who is willing to quickly shift among a variety of duties requiring different skill sets. Position may require the ability to lift 40 pounds and work in outdoor summer conditions. Experience with IT preferred.

Program Evaluation Summer VISTA
The Program Evaluation Summer VISTA will work closely with the Director of Grants and Evaluation to craft, implement, and respond to satisfaction surveys for Our House clients and for National Service Members at Our House. They will also support Our House efforts to develop and implement a new client database. Responsibilities will include developing and deploying new survey processes and programs; developing training and communications materials; coordinating with Our House staff and volunteers; entering, managing, and making meaning of survey responses and client data; and other duties as necessary. Successful applicants will have experience with Excel and Google Sheets.

Summer Feeding Kitchen VISTAs
Serving closely with the Children’s Programs Cook, these VISTAs will prepare food for Little Learners and Our Club Summer Program. Food preparation will include breakfast, lunch, and snack every day for approximately 60 kids in Little Learners, 90 kids in Our Club, and 50 adults. The Summer Feeding VISTA is also responsible for paperwork to track meals received by Our Club youth for our Summer Feeding grant, complete food ordering and pick-up, and assist in cleaning the kitchen after each meal. The hours for the Summer Feeding VISTA are Monday through Friday 7:30a.m. - 4:30p.m.

Youth Programs Summer VISTAs
Team Lead Summer VISTAs will serve directly with the various teams (Orange Team: Kindergarten through 2nd grade, Green Team: 3rd through 5th grade, Light Blue Team: 6th through 8th grade, and Dark Blue Team: 9th through 12th grade). The Team Leads are tasked with ensuring that youth are actively participating in enrichment activities and engaged during field trips. Must have a passion for serving marginalized (homeless, near homeless, formerly homeless, and low- income) youth.

Community Safety VISTAs will be tasked with ensuring that 90 youth feel safe and secure on campus and on field trips. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to escorting ill youth to the Wellness Center and the ACH dental van, supervising youth in "In-Club" suspension, and providing additional support for the entire youth team. Must have a passion for serving marginalized (homeless, near homeless, formerly homeless, and low- income) youth.

Summer VISTA Programmers will be tasked with creating and implementing age-appropriate programming for 90 youth (Kindergarten through 12th grade). The programming areas are Service Learning, where youth work together to serve their community utilizing their skills and interests, Life Skills (i.e. etiquette/manners, communication, and professional/academic development), Performing Arts (i.e. music, theatre, and dance), Physical Fitness (i.e. sports, yoga, and team building activities), STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and Visual Arts (i.e. photography, graphic design, sculpting). The ideal candidate will have superb ideas for the programming area of their choice or have a background in this programming area. Must have a passion for serving marginalized (homeless, near homeless, formerly homeless, and low- income) youth.

Qualifications
Summer VISTAs will be thoroughly committed to Our House’s mission. All candidates should have the following qualifications:  At least 18 years of age.  A United States Citizen, National, or Permanent Resident.  Able to pass federal and state background checks and a check of the Child and Adult Maltreatment Registries  Available to attend orientation on Thursday, May 24th and to serve without interruption from May 29-August 7, 2018.

Compensation
Summer VISTAs receive a living allowance of $472 every two weeks. At the end of a successful term of service Summer VISTAs receive either a $1,252.91 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a cash stipend, which accrues at the rate of $125 per month. Summer VISTAs are NOT eligible for health coverage, child care benefits, or relocation assistance.

Our House operates an 80-bed shelter, a 39-bed family housing program (18 family rooms), an education and job training center, a licensed child development center, and a feeding program that serves over 45,000 meals per year. Our House also offers additional free services that help people transform their lives. Services include one-on-one case management, after school and summer programs, parenting classes and job search assistance. Our House programs help people become successful members of the workforce, the community, and their own families.
