Service Position Title and Type: Employment Coach AmeriCorps (Half-time, 900 hours) Purpose : Our House - Founded in 1987, Our House is a comprehensive program for the working homeless serving over 1,400 clients annually. Operating on a 7-acre campus in central Little Rock, Our House empowers homeless and near-homeless families and individuals to succeed in the workforce, in school, and in life through hard work, wise decision-making, and active participation in the community. Service Position Summary: The Employment Coach AmeriCorps Member will serve in Our House’s Career Center, which works with over 1,200 adults each year through employment and training services, adult education, and resource navigation. The Employment Coach AmeriCorps Member will serve a hybrid of in-person and virtually to expand employment and wrap-around services for clients. They will support unemployed and underemployed individuals with barriers to employment, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to find jobs, succeed in jobs, move up the job ladder, and achieve long-term personal and family goals. The Employment Coach AmeriCorps Member will serve to meet established outcomes goals for Our House's AmeriCorps project, including provide hands-on support to 1,000 Career Center clients to help them meet their professional and personal goals; and successfully connect 450 unemployed and underemployed individuals with jobs. The Career Center team runs the Our House Resource Hotline, which provides over-the-phone coaching and resource referrals to callers. The following position responsibilities include in-person activities at the Career Center and virtual activities while serving from home. Essential Functions of Position: Coach clients through every aspect of the job search process: creating an email account, building a resume, navigating internet searches, applying for jobs, practice job interviews, addressing barriers to employment, job retention. Identify employment opportunities for clients of the Career Center and update the Our House Job Board with details about employment opportunities. Refer clients to wrap-around services that support long-term employment retention, including accessing public benefits, transportation assistance, professional clothing, mental health and substance use services, and family support services. Use the client database to accurately track, record, and report participant employment, wage, job status changes, and other related data. Sign up for shifts on the Resource Hotline, which provides remote support to callers: Answer client calls and make referrals to Our House and community resources. Create appointments for callers wishing to visit the Career Center in person. Update the COVID-19 Resources to provide clients with accurate information. Follow all procedures in the Our House COVID-19 Team Safety Policy. Participate in AmeriCorps Days of Service and additional service projects as approved by the program director. Attend Our House National Service Meetings led by the Our House VISTA Leader. Attend weekly Our House team meetings and other meetings as directed by supervisor. All members will undergo all required criminal history checks: NSOPW, FBI, and Arkansas State Police, as well as other states, as necessary. The above functions may be completed with or without reasonable accommodations. Marginal Functions of Position: When called upon, members may be asked to support disaster response and/or recovery efforts as needed by the State of Arkansas. COVID-19 Response Activities : Assisting with classroom/equipment sanitization, assisting with client health entry screening or providing virtual support to adult and youth clients receiving resources from home. Community Outreach Activities: Members may engage in activities that directly support the AmeriCorps Program. For example, assist with member recruitment; assist with public relations to introduce the AmeriCorps program to the community and develop community partnerships; assist with efforts to build a culture of service in Arkansas. This position does not duplicate work of previous or existing employees or volunteers, supplant the hiring of workers, or include service or duties that have been performed or were performed by a current employee, an employee who recently resigned or was discharged, an employee subject to a reduction in force, or an employee who is on leave. AmeriCorps Eligibility: AmeriCorps eligibility requires that participants must be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of service; be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States; be high school graduates, GED recipients, or working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service; and satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check criteria. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: The Employment Coach AmeriCorps Member will be thoroughly committed to Our House’s mission. Service Position Summary: The Child Development AmeriCorps Member will serve at Our House’s child development center, called Little Learners, which serves 65 children ages 6 weeks-5 years old. The Child Development AmeriCorps Member will serve in one of four classrooms (Toddler 1 and Toddler 2 or PreK3 and PreK 4-5), each led by a Lead Teacher. The Child Development AmeriCorps Member will serve with the teacher to help plan and implement activities for the children, ensure the safety of all children in the program, and create an enriching, fun, and safe environment for the children helping them to meet their developmental goals and milestones. The Child Development AmeriCorps Member will serve to meet established outcomes goals for Our House’s AmeriCorps project, including serving at least 75 children in Little Learners; help at least 50 children ages 1-5 meet the developmental milestones on the developmental assessments. Essential Functions of Position: Provide hands-on support to children in the Little Learners Child Development Center to help them meet developmental goals and milestones. Assist in implementing curriculum-driven activities that reflect Arkansas’ Child Development and Early Learning Standards. Adopt and Implement Conscious Discipline in the classroom to enhance the social-emotional growth of all children Contribute to the education of children through a unique lesson and activity planning Participate in and seek out professional development that will further advance pedagogy skills Organize service projects to benefit the children and parents of Our House, including developing partnerships with outside organizations, recruiting volunteers, recruiting participants, and other activities necessary for successful service events. Service Position Title and Type: Youth Program AmeriCorps (Half-time, 900 hours) Purpose : Our House - Founded in 1987, Our House is a comprehensive program for the working homeless serving over 1,400 clients annually. Service Position Summary: The Youth Programs AmeriCorps Members will serve at Our House’s out-of-school program, called Our Club which serves 90 school-age youth in grades Kindergarten-12 th grade. Our Club operates every day after school and all day during school breaks (winter break, spring break) and teacher in-service days. Our Club also operates a Summer Program for eight weeks over the summer. The Youth Program AmeriCorps Member will help to plan and implement enrichment activities for the youth, ensure the safety of all children in the program, help the youth with their homework and tutoring, and create an enriching, fun, and safe environment for the youth. The Youth Program AmeriCorps Member will serve to meet established outcomes goals for Our House’s AmeriCorps project, including serving at least 125 school-aged children in Our Club and helping at least 85 of those who stay for at least three months to maintain or improve their report card grades in literacy and math. Essential Functions of Position: Serve directly with youth during Our Club program hours (including after-school, summer, school holidays, and evening programming) in one of three homerooms K-2 nd grade, 3 rd -5 th grade, 6-12 th grade. Provide homework help to youth in the program: K-2 nd grade, 3 rd -5 th grade, 6-12 th grade. Organize service projects to benefit the children and parents of Our House, including developing partnerships with outside organizations, recruiting volunteers, recruiting participants, and other activities necessary for successful service events Develop and implement programming in one of our five programming areas: STEM, Arts, Cultural Enrichment, Health/Physical Fitness, and Life Skills. Facilitate parent engagement programming for parents of Our Club children, i.e. Family Fun Night. VISTAs have helped Our House build capacity in countless ways. AmeriCorps VISTAs serve in different programs in the organization to build capacity including: fundraising and resource development, volunteer recruitment, communications, program development, and more. Responsibilities Each AmeriCorps VISTA receives a Volunteer Assignment Description (VAD) that guides their year of service. Some responsibilities in each VAD include: Communications VISTA: Engage the community through online content, outreach, and fundraising activities. Coordinate two annual fundraising events to raise $600,000 for Our House Career Center VISTA: Coordinate Career Center events Volunteer Operations VISTA: Collaborate with the Volunteer Manager to increase the number of volunteers and donations Food and Wellness VISTA: Recruit potential one-time and ongoing meal servers to meet campus needs. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion VISTA: Research best practices related to developing DEI trainings and workshops, and strategies to assess DEI outcomes and overall effectiveness. Social Enterprise VISTA: Facilitate store-to-campus donations request and fulfillment program in coordination with the Donations Procurement VISTA. Housing and Community Development VISTA: Identify areas of opportunity for increased client recognition and other morale-encouraging acknowledgments and create a sustainable system for future programming. Reentry Program VISTA: Evaluate the effectiveness of the Reentry Program, so services better meet client needs and more effectively reduce recidivism. All candidates should have the following qualifications and experience: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking skills. Strong people skills, with the ability to form effective working relationships with a wide range of people. Strong organizational skills and ability to drive multiple simultaneous projects to completion. At least 18 years of age. A United States Citizen, National, or Permanent Resident. Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Must be able to lift 35 pounds. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be available to serve for a full one-year term. Salary and Benefits This is a full-time national service position that provides a living allowance of approximately $17,552 over the course of one year. You also have a choice of two awards at the end of a successful year of service: a $3,000 cash stipend or a $6,495 Segal Education Award for future educational expenses or federal student loan payments.
