SAFE Haven for Cats

Shelter Cleaning Team: (Monday-Sunday from 9am-11am) One of the primary needs of our shelter! Happy and healthy cats rely on having a clean environment. Shelter Cleaning Team members scoop litter boxes, change linens and toys, fill water bowls, and sweep the floor. Team members can also play and socialize with the cats at the end of their shift.

Litter Box Team: (Thursday nights) The Litter Box Team, which meets on Thursday evenings, is tasked with changing the litter boxes for all of the cats in the shelter.

Event Volunteer: SAFE Haven for Cats hosts multiple fundraisers and outreach activities throughout the year and always need individuals who want to join the volunteer service team!

Mouse Makers: Mouse Makers is a dedicated group of crafters who meet once per month to create catnip mice toys. Sewing skills are not required.

Tabby Cabby: Tabby Cabby volunteers transport cats to specialty veterinary practices, pick up cats from local shelters, or deliver food to pet food pantry recipients.

Adoption Counselors: (Must be 21 years or older) Introduce our cats to their forever homes! Adoption counselors work directly with potential adopters to find the right cat for their lifestyle (and the right person for the cat).

Foster Parents: Often we have cats that need a loving temporary home away from the shelter, such as, kittens who are too small to full-grown cats who just need a vacation.

Please apply online at www.safehavenforcats.org. If you have a question, please email volunteer@safehavenforcats.org.

Enrich the lives of cats while at the same time enriching your own life! You will make a difference!

Mission Statement

The mission of SAFE Haven for Cats is to use no-kill principles and education to save cats’ lives through rescue, adoption, spay/neuter services and community programs.

Description

SAFE Haven for Cats (a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization) was founded by Pam Miller and her family in 1994 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The shelter was first located in her two-car, 500-square-foot heated and air conditioned garage. The first 400 cats were adopted from that garage. Five years later, in October 1999, SAFE Haven moved and opened the first permanent no-kill shelter for cats in the Triangle region of North Carolina.
