ORGANIZATION: Utah's Hogle Zoo

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s Zoo Guide program is designed to give an individual the opportunity to learn about the animal world, its ecology and conservation, make new friends, develop new skills and contribute to the quality of life in our community. Our Guide program offers a hands-on opportunity to work with youth and the general public in conservation and environmental education in a zoological setting.

The Zoo Guide- Citizen Scientist position provides the opportunity to collect data from the field on one of our Big Six species- the boreal toad! Both day trips and longer camping trips of up to four days are carried out over summer, all around Utah. All travel to and from the zoo, food and field equipment is included.

Other opportunities include taking part in winter raptor surveys, black footed ferret surveys, Columbia spotted frog surveys, and habitat restoration projects around Utah.

Mission Statement

Utah's Hogle Zoo nurtures respect and appreciation for the natural world by providing diverse educational, recreational, and conservation opportunities. This is accomplished through imaginative exhibits and programs, professional animal care, and a commitment to excellence.

Description

Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s 42-acres are located in Salt Lake City, Utah at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. It houses a wide variety of mammals, reptiles, birds and other animals from diverse ecosystems around the world. Our goal is to increase understanding of, and responsibility for, local and global animal species and ecosystems

There are more than 2,000 USDA licensed wildlife exhibitors in the US but less than 10% of them have been accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums ( AZA). Hogle Zoo is one of that 10%, which means that it is recognized as being one of the best zoos in the world. Hogle Zoo is also a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums ( WAZA)
