The mission of Food For Thought is the elimination of weekend hunger in Denver’s Title 1 elementary schools. Each PowerSack has 9-13 items, enough to feed a family of four 2 meals over the weekend. FFT targets schools where 90% or more of the students are eligible for free and reduced lunch programs (income of a family of four is less than $29K/year to qualify). By providing a Powersack to each child in the school each week, they work to assure that no child goes hungry over the weekend.

Join the Project Helping group of volunteers in assisting Food for Thought at Greenwood Elementary School. We will pack PowerSacks for families to take home for the weekend. Volunteers may help set up assembly lines, pack bags and deliver to the classrooms. As space is limited, make sure to register before participating in this awesome event!

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is proven to have numerous health benefits including improved mood, feeling healthier, increased sense of purpose and reducing stress levels. Volunteering can also give us a deep sense of happiness, both immediately and long-term.

* 94% of people who volunteer say that volunteering improves their mood.
* 96% of people who volunteer say that volunteering enriches their sense of purpose.

This is just some of the science that supports our mission and outlines why it’s so beneficial to do good things for others. We call that practicing kindfulness. #DoGoodFeelGood
