Position Summary

The Digital Media Intern is responsible for producing photos, videos, and digital content for internal and external audiences. This position is part of a cohort of Digital Media Interns who will work together to support a variety of museum projects and works in partnership with Family Learning, Museum Experience and External Relations staff. Some examples of projects include capturing experiences in the galleries and traveling exhibits, daily on-going programs, special events, promotional content, and training content for cross-departmental projects. A flexible schedule is preferred, including weekend and weeknight availability for special events.

Major Job Accountabilities

This is an estimate of the duties to be included in the internship. The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern and museum staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of Museum Experience, Family Learning, and External Relations staff.

  • Produce video, capture notes, dialogue, and photos (using either Museum’s equipment or personal equipment*) following the Museum’s documented graphic standards.
  • Create timely promotional video content for museum experiences and exhibits, special events, Teaching Artists, etc.
  • Document the work and ideas of both children and adults within learning environments. Ensure consent forms are signed when necessary. Meet customer service & museum learning expectations at all times when on the Museum floor.
  • Work with supervisor to plan projects and collaborate with intern cohort to execute projects.
  • Maintain good communication with supervisor as projects progress, seeking approval for any changes as necessary.
  • Synthesize, catalogue and store both finished documentation and the collected artifacts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  1. Formal education in a related field (film studies, marketing, communications, journalism, education) or related experience.
  2. Strong cinematography and video and photo editing skills, as well as a passion for the art of storytelling.
  3. Ability to capture candid and live action. Knowledge and experience working with children is preferred. Understanding of experiential learning preferred.
  4. Ability to produce promotional videos for website and social channels.
  5. Ability to take initiative, organize time and work independently, follow directions and complete tasks in an effective manner.
  6. Skill in coordinating tasks and projects.
  7. Ability to work well with people.
  1. Flexible schedule with ability to work at various times and days throughout the course of the week.

* The Museum has the following equipment/software available for use onsite: Sony SR11 HD Video Camera, Nikon DSLR, Sony Shotgun microphone, Tascam, and Adobe Premier.
