VolunTeen yearbooks

Hartford Hospital's Department of Volunteer Services is looking for a volunteer graphic designer to design their 2018 digital/print Summer VolunTeen Yearbook. Teens 14-18 years of age volunteer 8 weeks of time in many areas of the hospital. We recognize their contributions with an end of summer event and provide them with an electronic copy of a yearbook of their experiences.

The position is mainly remote, but preferable that the designer is able to come in for a couple of meetings and to present concepts in person, if possible. The VolunTeen Shift Leaders determine a general concept/theme that they would like the yearbook to be centered around, but the volunteer will be free to interpret and bring their own style and vision for how they think the idea should be conveyed. There is a lot of freedom and openness to new/different ideas, so see this as a creative opportunity to build out your portfolio or just try something new that you've been wanting to do, while also helping out a good cause!

General Timeline:
May: Designer is given general concept direction
Early June: Present 2-3 concepts to department Director and VolunTeen Shift Leaders (a few templated spreads that show overall design/layout)
June-July: Building out yearbook pages as content and photos are collected over the summer (use of a google drop box to facilitate sharing of information)
August 5: Final yearbook in finished digital form and uploaded on Blurb if possible

Need familiarity with: Indesign, Book layout/design, Google Drive

Preferred familiarity or willingness to learn: Blurb or other online publishing site so that physical copies can be purchased online

Requirements:
- Able to work within Hartford Hospital brand guidelines (fonts, colors, etc.)
-Must be able to organize and keep track of large amount of information
- Able to communicate clearly, effectively and in a timely manner with the department Director and Shift Leaders on assets/content to keep project on time
- Able to dedicate at least 60-80 hours total
- Excited and motivated to have creative freedom

Please provide a link or PDF of your portfolio that includes at least one example of a book/magazine design or other similar project.
