FoodChain hosts a monthly community meal on the 4th Thursday of every month. We need help in serving this free homecooked meal to our neighbors who reside in an urban food desert. Volunteers will help set up the meal, serve, clean up and also engage neighbors in casual conversation. All volunteers get to enjoy eating the meal too!

Mission Statement
FoodChain forges links between community and fresh food with education and demonstration of sustainable food systems.
Description
Founded in 2011, FoodChain is dedicated to our mission of forging links between community and fresh food with education and demonstration of sustainable food systems. At the heart of our approach lies the recognition that education and access are the cornerstones for fostering lasting change in the food landscape. Since opening the doors of our indoor aquaponics farm in 2013, we have prioritized partnering our educational programs with the surrounding schools, all of whom are CEP schools. Since 2015, FoodChain has hosted free community meals, building relationships with all of our neighbors and paving the way for our Teaching and Processing Kitchen to purchase locally grown foods and increase food security in Fayette Co when it opened in 2017. We have provided free summer lunches in Lexington since 2019, and in 2020 launched the Nourish Lexington program.
Our mission supports full food system development, and we believe that food literacy encompasses understanding both where food originates and also how to engage in meaningful conversations about it, how to effectively utilize it, and the critical importance of responsible consumption.
