work party
fun, friends, and fresh air

We're looking for teams from a company, club, or even group of friends to help at the Cascade P-Patch (one of 90 in Seattle.)

The P-Patch provides recreation, healthy food and social opportunities for community members, each of whom pays for a small garden space. Without this, some would be unable to afford healthy food. It is the only social outlet for some. The patch is expanding to provide space for those with walkers, wheel chairs, or who may find it difficult to work on their knees.

Some public areas are maintained for beauty and to raise food for the food banks.

Grab some friends, or co-workers and spend a day at the Patch. We can use help in weeding, replanting, tending the giving gardens, building raised beds, turning vegetation into rich soil, and maintenance.

We will work with you based on the number of people, your interests, your abilities, and the time you want to spend. Depending on when you want to schedule this the needs will vary.

This is a great opportunity for team building. Spend time outside int he fresh air and help maintain and improve a rare bit of open space for the community and help the P-Patch Gardeners.

After we set up your event, just show up appropriately dressed. You may wish to bring snacks, drinks and sunscreen. Portable speakers can make it even more fun. We've got gloves and tools.

You could be moving rocks, moving soil, turning compost, weeding, replanting, or covering paths with wood chips, picking up trash, pruning, harvesting, or doing minor repairs.

About Cascade Patch Community Garden

Location:

Thomas & Minor, Seattle, WA 98109, US

Mission Statement

We are one of 88 Community Gardens run by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. We have created an urban oasis in the middle of South Lake Union for individuals to produce healthy food, interact, build community and provide recreational opportunities.

Description

Each gardener leases a small plot from the city for their own use and puts in extra time to maintain the entire garden and community areas. If you are interested in your own plot search for Seattle P-Patch on the Internet.

We need additional volunteers to help maintain the food we raise for the food banks, and for the common areas. It's a quiet place to have lunch, or where some friends meet for tai chi, and an escape from concrete boxes nearby. Your help is needed to keep up this public garden, demonstrate good land use, prevent run-off, and provide habitat for native bees and songbirds.

Check out our monthly work parties as listed on the shed, or let us coordinate a day for your group.
