Do you want to help encourage 5th grade students pursue their college and career dreams?
Promise Scholars needs you to help write letters to our 5th graders, encouraging them to pursue an education after high school and help them gain a growth mindset (belief that that ability can change as a result of effort, perseverance, and practice)!
With over 2,000 5th graders going on these field trips each school year, questions about college add up quickly. Many of our students will be first-generation college students, so they have plenty of questions about: financial aid, clubs, different types of careers, how classes work, etc.
We'll provide the questions, snacks, beverages, and music. All you need to bring is your college knowledge and enthusiasm.
If you are a current or past college student, come join the party, and help our students realize they have a place in college!

The vision of the Promise Scholars Initiative is to prepare all Ontario-Montclair School District (OMSD) students who go on to Chaffey, Montclair, and Ontario High Schools to reach their college and career dreams.
Description
Our early and all approach-we connect with all our kids starting in Kindergarten and continue that relationship even after high school-requires a lot of resources and partners. Every kid has the potential to succeed, and helping kids reach their goals is key in strengthening our community and a wide circle of caring and engaged adults helps make this possible.
We work to increase student knowledge about college and career technical training opportunities and help them develop and act on their plans for a post-secondary education.
This is achieved through in-class curriculum on college and careers starting in Kindergarten. Promise Scholars also takes all 5 th and 8 th graders on field trips to community colleges and four year universities so they can begin to envision themselves as college students. All 6 th graders participate in business leader presentations in class, where community members come speak about their path to a degree or certificate and their career. In 9 th grade we help student explore their personality strengths and career options. And 12 th graders get help with their college application and financial aid applications.
We serve low income neighborhoods in Ontario and Montclair where the majority of students will be the first in their family to complete college.
