ORGANIZATION: NAMI San Fernando Valley

NAMI SFV

Looking for energetic, bold hospital Spanish speaking volunteers for our Friends in the Lobby program. In partnership with hospitals and urgent care facilities, NAMI volunteers set up a table with our brochures and information and make families aware of NAMI and how we can help them or their loved one affected by a mental health crisis. The facilities we visit may be specifically for people presenting with a mental health condition.

You will be thoroughly trained and followed throughout the course of your volunteer time with us. It is important that you be unafraid to approach people who clearly need help.

Great for students earning volunteer, practicum, or community services hours.

NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots organization made up of primarily volunteers that help anyone affected by mental illness.

Mission Statement

NAMI SFV aims to build a close-knit community to support, advocate for, and educate anyone affected by mental illness.

Description

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979, NAMI has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Today, NAMI is an association of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI relies on gifts and contributions to support its important work.
