Hospice Volunteer Opportunity

We have an on-going need for compassionate Hospice Volunteers.

What would I do during visits?
Every patient and caregiver has different needs.
* Some would like companionship: someone to talk with, watch a game or movie on TV, be read to.
* Some can no longer drive and need to have someone run errands for them.
* Some are Veterans and would like another Veteran to visit for a military appreciation presentation.
* Some have caregivers who need a short break while someone sits with their loved one.
You will always be consulted before a visit with a new patient to ensure you understand what is being asked and are comfortable doing the tasks that are being requested.

Would I have to do anything hands-on?
No! In fact, volunteers are not permitted to do anything hands-on. You would not transfer, lift, provide toilet or other care, or give medications. Volunteers are also not permitted to provide transportation to patients or caregivers. You would simply be visiting for the purposes of companionship, errands, or caregiver relief.

Requirements to Volunteer for Hospice

Because of the vulnerability of the patients we serve, we do require a background check, drug test, and TB test - all of which are paid for by Gentiva Hospice. We provide in-depth training so that Volunteers feel prepared to do their important work. All hospice volunteers are given assignments that best suit their time, skills and interests. We reimburse mileage for all visits!
