Boost student engagement with the natural environment through outdoor learning!

Come to an information session and orientation for CSV's Art & Science in One (AS1) Program. AS1 provides one-to-one volunteer mentors in a guided, structured program of outdoor nature journaling for a single classroom of elementary school students (Grade 4 and Grade 5). The goal of the program is to help students develop basic science skills of observation and documentation in an outdoor environment.

Candidates should have an enthusiasm for the outdoors and for learning new things. You should also have an interest in and comfort level with working with children 9-11 years old. The main requirement is being able to model genuine interest and curiosity in a natural setting. Four hours of training in nature journaling with children is provided.

Artists and scientists have been an important part of the AS1 volunteer mentor corps since its inception six years ago; however, this is not a program only for professionals in the arts or in scientific fields.
