CSV is building a community to support the academic success of Cambridge public school students, K-12. Its volunteers include business men and women, retired persons, college and university students and faculty members, and other individuals from Cambridge and surrounding communities. They serve as tutors, classroom and library assistants, mentors, speakers, and special project leaders.
Founded in 1966, Cambridge School Volunteers, Inc. is the agency responsible for the recruitment, training, placement, support, and evaluation of volunteers in the Cambridge Public Schools (CPS), which include one high school, the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, and 12 elementary schools. CSV's mission is to contribute to the improvement of public education in Cambridge by developing meaningful roles for volunteers that emphatically respond to standards of educational excellence within each academic area. CSV also functions as the Cambridge Public Schools' designated liaison to the community on matters pertaining to volunteerism. In this role, CSV assists community agencies and constituencies with the planning and development of programs that effectively utilize volunteers and related community resources.
