Position Summary

Play Docent volunteers welcome All Play members to the museum. All Play members receive free memberships to ensure that the museum is accessible to all regardless of socioeconomic status. Many are first time visitors to the museum and speak languages other than English. Play Docent volunteers will introduce All Play members to the museum through modeling hands-on play in the galleries.

Impact

Play is more than "just fun." It’s how we learn and practice the key skills we need to be successful people. For children and adults alike, play develops critical thinking, communication, creativity, coordination and more. Research shows children need opportunities for hands-on, sensory learning and engagement with a variety of environments, and they also need diversity of playmates that challenge their understanding. Play Docents will guide play so All Play members become more comfortable exploring the museum on their own.
