We are a nonprofit that uses horses and gentle farm animals in therapeutic programs for people in need including children and adults with special needs, children facing life-threatening illness, teens struggling with mental health issues, Veterans, senior citizens, and inmates in the local county jail.

We have volunteers who help us take care of our animals every day. This includes barn chores such as cleaning animal stalls, scrubbing water buckets, etc. It also includes letting the animals out for playtime and some light feeding. Our animals include 3 miniature horses, 1 full-size horse, 4 goats, 1 sheep, 2 bunnies, 3 guinea pigs and 9 chickens. The best part of this volunteer opportunity is getting to spend time with our sweet, loving animals!

Morning animal care takes approximately 2.5 hours and we ask our volunteers to start their shift sometime between 8:30 am and 9:00 am. We do require a weekly commitment for this volunteer opportunity. No previous farm animal experience required. We'll provide training. We request that you commit to the volunteering slot for 6 months or longer.

Mission Statement

Inspired by the comforting power of animals, Jasper Ridge Farm provides a special experience for people in need.

Description

We are dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties who are facing physical and emotional challenges. Our goal is to bring unique experiences to these people through therapeutic interaction with gentle farm animals.

Our programs are offered free of charge to children facing life-threatening illness, those living with special needs, and for children or adults facing challenging family situations such as homelessness, neglect, or domestic violence. We also focus on helping youth struggling with mental health issues and have programs for Veterans, senior citizens, and inmates.

Animals provide love and unconditional acceptance. Our group of support animals, many of whom have been rescued, have endless love and kindness to give and we believe interacting with them provides comfort for people in need.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have switched the majority of our programming to be virtual.
