The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

The Special Events Intern works directly with the chapter's Development Department. Interns assist with special events and community outreach initiatives. Students will gain experience in event planning, fundraising and nonprofit management. Full and part-time internships are available year-round with the opportunity for flexible schedules. Internships are unpaid.

Requirements

1. Field of Study:

Pursuing a degree in Business, Communications, Sports Management, Nonprofit Management or related field.

2. Year in school:

Junior, Senior

3. Time Commitment:

Duration: 12 weeks

Hours per week: flexible

4. Minimum Experience/Skills

  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with event planning preferred.

5. Technical/Other requirements

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services to people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and fifty-state network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking out and engaging volunteers to the MS cause is at the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers three key fundraising activities: The Bike MS Ride, Walk MS and Walk MS Challenge. The Society also engages volunteers to help influence law-makers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as: marketing communications, public relations, corporate and donor development, medical, legal, administrative and organizational expertise.
