ORGANIZATION: Forterra

Take on a new initiative and bring this forest back to glory by pulling ivy and removing Stinky Bob (don’t worry, it’s a plant). Viewpoint Open Space has been overrun by invasive species, and in order to clear space for native plants, we will need all the hands we can get! Come play in the dirt, learn about the Green Redmond Partnership and how it’s helping our local parks, make new friends, and of course have fun while also restoring our green spaces for the enjoyment of all!

When: 9:00am to 12:00pm

Park address: 17541 NE 24th St, Redmond, WA 98052

Where to meet: At the Park entrance off of 24th St

Where to park: There is street parking across from the park entrance on 176th Ct NE, but please be considerate of the residents living there and don’t park in front of driveways and mailboxes. Please be careful crossing 24th to get to the park!

What to bring: a water bottle, a snack if you want one, and tough clothes, and shoes that can get dirty (because they will!), including long pants and a long-sleeved shirt to protect against prickly blackberry. Closed-toed shoes are required: work boots, hiking boots, or running shoes are all fine. Remember to check the weather and bring appropriate layers and rain gear or sun protection as needed.

About Forterra

Location:

Mission Statement

Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.

Description

Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
