About

Program: Dads Corps provides opportunities for active duty and veteran fathers to learn to thrive as parents, partners, and providers through peer-to-peer discussion around topics like communication, discipline, child development, co-parenting, the father’s role, showing and handling feelings, dad’s work, what it means to be a man, among others. Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Organization and participation in a wide range of activities such as games, crafting, stories, drawing or other short term engagement
  • Helping with homework and other school work, if needed
  • Observation and monitoring of children's play activities
  • Maintaining a clean and organized environment

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate patience, flexibility and love for children
  • Ability to provide childcare by keeping children active, playing games and engaging in enrichment activities for kids of all ages
  • Ability to help children with homework and other school work
  • Must have reliable transportation

Education and Experience:

  • Experience with working with youth of all ages
  • Early Child Development or Social Work Background, a plus
  • First Aid and/or CPR, a plus

Training or Support

  • Will receive support and guidance from Program Manager

Volunteer Time Commitment

Length of service:
Ongoing (with a minimum commitment of 4.5 months) starting January 2018 (1/24/18 to 6/6/18)

Day(s) of week and time(s) volunteer is needed:

  • Classes are on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm to 8:00pm for 6 weeks each (3 cohorts)
  • Preparation time for activities may add an additional hour a week
