Volunteer Purpose and Impact
The volunteer will assist within the Women’s Empowerment Program to provide ongoing services for refugee women. The main focus is assisting the computer program and coordinating the monthly cultural field trips to educate refugee women about local resources and American culture.
Duties & Responsibilities- Teach refugee women basic computer skills (Typing, using a mouse, word processing, creating an email account and resume)
- Schedule and recruit for monthly cultural field trips
- Assist with childcare room (Provide care for children, Update and print weekly child care schedules and attendance)
- Provide administrative assistance for daily program activities
- May assist with other programs within Women's Empowerment as necessary
- Dedicated volunteer interested in learning about Women’s Empowerment programming
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work with people from different cultures with minimal English skills
- Flexible and patient in the midst of stressful situations
- Additional fluency in following languages preferred but not required:
- Arabic, Dari, Farsi, French, Spanish, Swahili, other refugee languages
Volunteer will have access to a computer and phone as needed
Clearances Required and Training
Level one fingerprint clearance card required (cost of $65, valid for 6 years). Central Registry clearance required (free).
Location and Timeframe
MINIMUM 3 months
Expected scheduled: Mondays 11am - 2pm; Wednesdays 11am - 2pm
(Schedule and additional hours are negotiable around the availability of the intern)
