ABOUT THE EDUCATION GROUP

The Education Group is part of Save the Water TM (STW)’s Public Awareness efforts. We design educational materials to inform concerned citizens about water contamination and what they can do to help. Our content is distributed through the STW website and our Day in the Life of a Scientist (DILOS TM ) STEM Classroom Workshop. Through education, we aim to arm our readers to be agents of environmental and social change so that we may preserve our water sources for generations to come.

The Role
Assist with coordination and operations of the DILOS (Day in the Life of a Scientist) STEM Program.

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity and as an Associate you are expected to put in a minimum of 5 hours per week and be responsive to emails within 36 hours.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with coordinating and designing presentations on water contamination and research in local Florida schools. Topics including, but not limited to:
    • Exploring science with children
    • Universal design in science education
    • Water pollution hotspots
    • Water use and conservation
    • Life in a drop of water
  • Attend monthly Education Group meeting.

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with the public.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department.
  • Current residence in Miami-Dade or Broward County a plus, but not required.
