Weekend Survival Kits provide food to children in the following Lansing schools: Cavannaugh, Gardner, Gier Park, North, Pleasant View, Riddle, Willow Elementary and Eastern Middle. These child-friendly kits are given to those who may not have sufficient food in their household over the weekend.
A typical kit would include non-perishable items such as cereal, oatmeal packets, canned vegetables, soup, tuna, peanut butter, crackers, ramen noodles, boxed macaroni & cheese, and granola bars. Simple recipes using the provided ingredients are also included. It is estimated that each kit has enough food for 5 to 6 meals and feed 2 children. Each food kit costs us $4.25 and donations are greatly appreciated!
During the 2016-2017 school year, over 855 students received 11,500 kits assembled by a total of 148 wonderful volunteers throughout the school year. We are always in need of volunteers to lend a hand!
