ORGANIZATION: CASA of Bradley and Polk Counties

Internship Summary: CASA's community outreach intern is responsible for assisting in the raising of awareness of CASA’s mission in the community, recruiting volunteer advocates, and helping to increase CASA’s financial capacity. Duties will include, but are not limited to: attending volunteer expos, writing press releases, assisting with CASA’s newsletter, writing grants, helping to coordinate fundraisers, and assisting in general office duties.

This position is ideal for sophomore, junior, and senior bachelor’s level students looking to gain an understanding of the nonprofit world and hands-on experience. CASA sees all interns as part of the team from their first day of work. Interns should be self-motivated, have a general understanding of marketing/public relations best practices, and have a service-oriented heart.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help in the coordination and planning of fundraisers and community outreach events
  • Help effectively market events through media creation and press releases
  • Attend event committee meetings
  • Help bring in sponsors and attendees
  • Serve as a connection point between the agency and the greater community
  • Occasionally write stories and articles for CASA newsletter and blog.
  • Actively seek out opportunities in the community for CASA to spread its mission
  • Help with other office duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Be a sophomore, junior, or senior student enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Currently be studying business, marketing, public relations, non-profit management, mass communication, or a related field
  • Be a service oriented individual
  • Be well versed in computer skills
  • Possess excellent writing and editing skills

Description

Volunteer advocates fill a vital role. Here's how it works:

  • CASA is appointed to a case by a local judge.
  • Appointment usually takes place when a petition is brought before the judge, in cases of reported child abuse or neglect.
  • CASA takes the information of both parties and launches an unbiased investigation using volunteer and staff advocates.
  • The detailed report provides the judge with an accurate depiction of circumstances.
  • Volunteer and staff advocates make recommendations in the report which are fact based, and seek to promote the most positive outcome for the child.
  • When the proceedings conclude, CASA continues to monitor the case to make sure all court orders are upheld, and the safety of the child continues to be priority.
