Love to eat? Want to eat, drink, experience new restaurants, chefs, food establishment folks while doing good?
Then, volunteer for our 4th Tastes of Brooklyn Carroll Gardens-Cobble Hill Summer Crawl - a Food Fest.
You can join us anytime that day, to help set up, or work during the event, or breakdown.
Event:
Saturday, Sept. 29
Time: 2-6 pm
People buy tickets for 4 tastes for $20 or 11 tastes for $50 and walk along Court and Smith and Henry Streets in Brooklyn, below Atlantic Avenue, just off the F and G trains at Bergen and Carroll Streets.
We need volunteers to buy a ticket at tastesofbrooklyn.com to support Seeds in the Middle (seedsinthemiddle.org) work to empower kids in central Brooklyn's food deserts to create healthy choices.
In the past, we have had more than 20 restaurants taking part along Smith, Court and Henry Streets, between Atlantic Avenue and 4th Street in Carroll Gardens. We are still welcoming more for this event.
What you can do!
- work beside chefs to serve food at restaurants or mark tickets
- lead a group tour (you'd need to gather info first about the restaurants first so you can talk about it - great experience for someone who wants to be a tour guide - email us at tastesofbrooklyn.com)
- lead a group of kids on a scavenger hunt (where they have to find clues at different restaurants and when they get all them, win a prize)
- work our youth-run Hip2B Healthy Market, where youth serve fresh OJ, parfaits, air-popped popcorn to show healthy snacks can be delicious!
- hand out flyers
- put up flyers
- help us advertise and sell tickets
- anything else you can think of to make this a success

About Seeds in the Middle
Location:
153 Warren Street, BROOKLYN, NY 11201, US
Mission Statement
Seeds in the Middle partners with students, educators, parents & their communities to access all opportunities, beginning with improving health, enhancing arts education and greening their environment. We empower and educate all to get healthy and scale educational and social disparities. Our pilot schools are in central Brooklyn, a neighborhood with among the city’s highest obesity, diabetes, and heart disease rates. We teach how to grow, market, cook, access and prepare fresh food, how to exercise & engage in the arts, all the elements needed to promote life-changing lifelong health. Our volunteers come from all walks of life. We cross cultures. We transform gray into green, destitution into inspiration.
Description
Seeds in the Middle offers joyful, healthy interventions that nurture the whole child and address the multiple obstacles blocking low-income children and families from getting healthy. We teach how to grow edible gardens, run a student-led Hip2B Healthy Market, bring chefs into schools, started soccer, running and fitness programs at school and in the community and music and arts in the schools. We integrate professional development for teachers so that a healthy lifestyle and environmental stewardship becomes organic and sustainable in the school community. To build community, we created Soccer for Harmony tournaments and the Crown Heights Farmers Market. In two years, we have engaged more than 1,000 families, and students and teachers report changing their habits to include more fruits and vegetables, and fitness. This is a pilot for any school and Seeds in the Middle plans to replicate.
