Seeds in the Middle Community Action Spot is seeking chefs and culinary talent to host a series of tastings and pairings - or any kind of chef event you would like to fundraiser for Seeds in the Middle's programs to fight food insecurity and overcome inequity. We have a beautiful space at 318 Rogers Avenue, Brooklyh - It is not a commercial kitchen but we have appliances that can be plugged in to make a pop-up kitchen and food events. We need to bring money in to support the space, which is refrigerating fresh farm produce to expand affordable, nearby access to farm fresh fruits and vegetables in our lowest-income food-insecure neighborhoods and to support our farmers and growers! We will gladly promote you on all of our social media handles - @tastesofbrooklyn @seedsinthemiddle @thespotnyc_ - and to our email lists of over 10k. All you do is set up an event, donate your time, and let's see if we can get people to pay to come! Email us with ideas at tastesofbk@seedsinthemiddle.org Or leave a message at 862-701-3858

We are seeking volunteers to help us run our new space in Crown Heights or Prospect Lefferts Gardens. We are renting the space to refrigerate fresh produce for our student-run farm stands and hold a pop-up affordable farm market/cafe that supports local farmers. We need people to pay to use the space to offset our rent - or volunteers to help us find these creatives and even help us run the space. If this interests you, please send email to info@seedsinthemiddle.org - If you'd like to use the space at 318 Rogers - called the SEEDS IN THE MIDDLE Community Action Spot - pls reach out. Seeds in the Middle began in 2009 at a school in a low-income neighborhood in Brooklyn to empower students, schools and their communities to create healthier places to live and learn. We have 18 schools in NYC who would like our student-run farm stands, Hip2B Healthy Cafes and other programs that help communities themselves fight and overcome food insecurity and health and educational disparities. We need to raise funds for them. We know we need to show our impact. So, we need folks who can interview people impacted by our programs, collect data about the communities, and graphics and help us create a wonderful impact report. We welcome all talents in this - this is about empowering people to change their food and environmental landscape in our poorest neighborhoods. All of our schools are in food-insecure areas, predominantly neighborhoods of color. Please help us collect data or even come up with fundraising ideas. Feel free to email us at info@seedsinthemiddle.org

Seeds in the Middle is dedicated to erasing food deserts in NYC, particularly central Brooklyn and it all comes back to empowering the local community to create the change they want to see - with support from us! We have a series of community and school-run farm markets and edible gardens and we are opening more. We now want to begin Hip2B Healthy Cafes run by locals - youth to seniors- in neighborhoods lacking nutritious ,delicious options for eating out... or catering in. Are you a healthy chef? Do you like to cook fresh and healthy and want to share? Do you spend time crafting recipes using fresh ingredients to empower lucky eaters to build their immune systems and enjoy a healthy life? Would you like to work with community members to create menus and craft cafes tied to local schools, businesses and other possiiilities. If so, please reach out. Times are flexible. Our school markets are across Brooklyn, Bronx, even lower East Side. Commitment would be one afternoon. If you want to develop a series of cooking classes with fresh ingredients with students, and can offer a curriculum, please let us know. Our biggest days for markets are Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays. Coming soon - other weekend markets in Flatbush, Brownsville, Crown Heights - we hope if you can volunteer.
