Our City Forest Community Planting

Join the Tree Team and help turn San Jose from grey to green!

In an effort to extend the urban canopy cover in San Jose, Our City Forest has partnered up with San Jose Department of Transportation and Cal Trans to add new shade trees to medians and public streets throughout the city.

We are currently seeking medium-sized corporate or community groups available during the week to assist with these projects. Dates are somewhat flexible - Wednesday, Thursday or Friday - and projects will take approximately three hours (9am to 12pm).

Ongoing projects in need of assistance:

  • Lundy Ave & Geyser Dr (sponsored by Department of Transportation): 6 trees to be planted by October 27
  • Meridian Ave (sponsored by CalTrans): 9 trees in the median
  • Zanker Rd (sponsored by Department of Transportation): 5 trees
No prior planting experience is required to volunteer and all materials will be provided by Our City Forest. AmeriCorps members will serve as coaches to guide and assist planting volunteers. Groups will be recognized on Our City Forest's social media accounts.

Interested? Please contact catherine@ourcityforest.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to cultivate a green and healthy Silicon Valley by engaging community members in the appreciation, protection, growth and maintenance of our urban ecosystem, especially our urban forest.

Description

The ultimate goal of the program is to facilitate the planting of one million trees in Silicon Valley, utilizing one million people. We have planted over 70,000 trees in San Jose, encouraging community members to join us in improving the environmental conditions of their communities. We focus on making a healthy urban forest accessible to all by offering services targeted towards disadvantaged communities because we believe a healthy environment should be available to all people, not just those who have the resources to access it.
