The Melanoma Education Foundation is a non-profit public charity that provides free online melanoma lessons that are currently taught in over 1700 high schools and middle schools throughout the U.S. The lessons educate students about early self-detection of melanoma, a skin cancer that is often fatal unless found at an early stage, and have saved lives of students and teachers. We are starting a student peer to peer education project by contacting high school HOSA Chapter (Health Occupation Students of America) faculty advisers, introducing them to our free lessons, and asking them to distribute the information to their students who may be interested in earning community service credit by teaching the lessons to other students. Melanoma Warriors are volunteers who find contact information of HOSA advisers from designated school websites. We provide the names and web addresses of schools and detailed instructions for finding information and entering it in an XL worksheet that we also provide. No fundraising, selling, or phone calls are involved. The work can be done anytime. We send lists of 50 schools at a time and ask that the information be completed within 7 days. Volunteers can typically get the information in about 4 hours. We can accomodate large numbers of volunteers and we will gladly provide community service letters, verifying volunteer-reported hours.
